Message From The President of The Pan-Hellenic Council, Nassau, Bahamas

The Officers and Representatives of the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council take this opportunity to salute the Chairman and members of the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation and the Members of the Awards Committee for nineteen years of impeccable performance and organization for one of the most distinguished awards programs in The Bahamas. Commendation is given to the Nassau Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council who came together to establish an Awards scheme to recognize the BEST and BRIGHTEST primary school students from 9th June 1997 and continues to do today.

This Council is persisting to be steadfast to the mandate, which is to focus on the recognition of accomplishments in education. This commission has been set by each of the various national organizations under the umbrella of the National Pan-Hellenic Council.

Members of the nine Black Greek Lettered Fraternities and Sororities have partnered with the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, corporations and individual donors in an effort to showcase the too often neglected Bahamian talent that exists in our school system.

The collaboration of community organizations, the government, and individuals are essential for the favourable outcome of this program. On that account, we are most certainly appreciative to the supporting partner, since the inception, the Ministry of Education for encouraging our schools in the setting apart of those students worthy of national recognition.

I would like to personally take time to pay commendation to Dr. Ricardo P. Deveaux, President & CEO of The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation and allowing God to set the vision behind this excellent awards program in his heart. We are all grateful for his inspiration and zealousness to spearhead this effort.

To Mrs. Autherine Turnquest-Hanna, Chairperson of Judges, Mr. Philip Stubbs, Chief Tally Judge, and members of the Distinguished Panel of Judges who repeatedly give unselfishly of their time to evaluate all of the portfolios and choose the winners, special thanks is extended. This is a arduous task, however they took on the task and again we are grateful.

It would be irresponsible to neglect the hard working members of the Council, College of the Bahamas students, and volunteers, who each year, ban together with the operation and implementation of this Awards Program, thank you for accepting this challenge and please remember that it is the obligation of all Bahamians to continue making a difference in the lives of these students.

The council offers congratulations to the parents and guardians of our 2016 nominees. Your child’s nomination into this Awards Program shows that you have played an integral part in their success. We urge you to please, please, please continue to help in their development and to be the positive role model they so desperately need.

Finally, I can confidently state, we will have a brighter future because God has obviously blessed you all tremendously with the numerous achievements our nominees have done in this stage of their lives. Congratulations and continue to press “Forward, Onward, Upward Together” towards excellence!!!!!!
