2017 Student of The Year Winner



The Board of Directors of The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation and the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council, in conjunction with the Distinguished Panel of Judges are pleased to announce that a self-motivated; polite; focus; passionate and civic minded student was selected as the 2017 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year. Hannah Edomwonyi, an 11-year-old Head Girl at Clara Evans Primary School, Andros, has been selected from the 121 nominees as the 2017 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year. Hannah maintains an accumulative grade point average of a 3.94.

Hannah embodies, through her character, poise yet humility, tenacity yet logic, discipline
yet balance. She is polite, both respectful and respectable, as well as an exceptional role
model for her peers.

Hannah, a kind-hearted student brought joy to displaced children from Lowe Sound
Primary School, Andros in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. Cognizant of the fact
that these were tough times and the children were hurting and may not have been able to
enjoy their Christmas holiday, she founded a charity, DOLLS AND TRUCKS FOR TOTS IN
ANDROS. She coordinated the distribution for toys for the students, establishing collection
centers even in New Providence.

Hannah is also an Author, who wrote a published book entitled, “The Day We Met Matthew”.
The story gave accounts of the impact of the recent Hurricane Matthew and its aftermath in
Andros, as seen through the eyes of this primary school student.

She is involved in the Discovery Club; Member of the Clara Evans Primary (formerly
Nicoll’s Town Primary) Junior Junkanoo; School Choir and Dance Group and an Acolyte
at her Church. She has participated in the school and District Spelling Bee Competition,
placing 2nd Runner. She also participated in the 8th Annual Commonwealth Writers of
The Bahamas competition, placing 3rd Runner up. She also participated in The E. Clement
Bethel National Arts Festival.

Hannah who becomes the first student from Andros to capture the Bahamas Primary
School Student of the Year is the daughter of Rev. Fr. Jude and April Edomwonyi.
